My sister and I were on a trip on I 81 west and we saw the sign for the Settlers Museum. We decided to go and see it. It was the best experience we had and the lady that helped us, Ms. Freeman, was very, very kind and friendly. We left the museum with a happy heart, and I give this place 5 Stars☆☆☆☆☆
An excellent place to see a civil war era homestead. Incredibly friendly staff. Adjoins a section of the Appalachia Trail. Another poster gave poor reviews for no good reason. My wife and I spent hours there exploring the buildings and grounds. There was no entry fee. A $5 donation was requested but not required. We gave them $20. Public bathrooms were on site for those who are hiking through. An historical gem.
Neat, but small museum, but very interesting out buildings.
Didn't make it to the museum, but visited the school house while hiking the AT. Really cool place!
A unique museum, with an unexpected amount of diversity! From dinosaur fossils to native Americans to the civil war and the industrial revolution. Truly worth leaving the beaten path if you are traveling 81, learn something while you stretch your legs!
